OPENING OF VILLAGE ODE 2: ENTHUSIASTIC

I. Two scarecrows. Hay men of rice field were brought to public. The scarecrows are mindmastered by Bonang Purbaya, Fiday, July, 20, 2007 at the city yard of Serang municipality –whose yard is crowded by malls – and some members of Gesbica IAIN Serang and Kubah Budaya (the Culture Dom). At the same time, Jack Lamota’s documentary film of the Village Ode 1 (2006): the meeting of writers, was on the screen, running. The aroma of the VO2 (July 20 – 22, 2007) got intensed. And this is stronger when we drive out of the East Serang Tol. From the first cross-road a scarecrow welcome us, standing. Moving along on the junction of of Sudirman Road another scarecrow welcoming us. It waves on us right under the bridge, dominated by the capitalist billboards ads. The scarecrow invited people to drop at Rumah Dunia (the World Home) in Ciloang village where the gathering was executed.

ENTHUSIASTIC
Ciloang village, whose streets and alleys were renovated. The street’s hole were made solid and asphalted. The village has been enthusiastically welcoming the the gathering of writers community in Nusantara (another name of Indonesia). The tents were erected. The neighborhood has prepared her members of community to welcome the guests staying. They are coming from Aceh, Padang, Palembang and Makasar, Kendari, Surabaya, and Madura as well. Around 300 people from 45 communities spreaded in Nusantara would come to VO2. Pendi, the chief of Cilong Neighborhood had guaranteed that all the guest would be accommodated at the neighbors’ houses. Each guest would be charged for Rp.20.000,-/night stay.

The first groups came on Thursday morning, July 19, 2007. Two students of Ailangga University. And then Friday morning (20/7) there came Shiho Shawai, PhD candidate of S3 Tokyo University. “I have conducted a research on Indonesian Literature in Indonesia”, she said smiling fully. “I would stay for twodays,” she continued. The volunteers (belong to the committee’s staff).

While Bucek, Shodiq, Roy, Awi, Deden, Abduh, Mahdi Duri, and Indra Kesuma were busy preparing the stage. The scarecrows, big and smalls, are around the plaza, on a soiled-alleys in front of Rumah Dunia. Some of them are about he man size, some thers are smaller. And all of them were welcoming the guests on Ciloang street.

The guests began to come before Friday prayer. The theatre group of “The Light” from “the Light House”, Depok. They entered the plaza. Sat for a while and their members: Asma Nadia, Andi Biru Laut, Denny Prabowo, Koko Nata prepared for the evening stage “the Red Net”. The next groups of artists and writers were then flooded. They came from Komunitas Penulis Jakarta, Saut Situmorang, Yausa Nugroho, Wawan Husin, Matdon, Forum Diskusi Wartawan Bandung, Padhiputih Communications Jakarta, Ali Muakhir with his group of FLP Bandung, FLP Banten, Bekasi, Saut Situmorang, and many of the guests entered the plaza. Welcome to our home o, those the participant of VO2. Welcome to “the World’s Home”!

II. The bell rang at 04.00 pm. The gathering was about to begin. The dance Company of Tari Raksa Budaya chiefed by Maya Rani Wulan welcomed the guests by their composision Banten Katuran (the Bantenese welcoming). Children of the Ciloang neighborhood got crowded.
